This is a fictional promotional poster for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). To advertise a special exhibit celebrating the work of Saul Bass. I began by researching Bass’s design philosophy, visual motifs, and his impact on modern graphic design. Drawing inspiration from his signature use of bold color, geometric abstraction, and symbolic imagery, I created a portrait of Bass that reflects his distinctive style.

Saul Bass Exhibition

  • Used Adobe Illustrator to create bold, cut-paper–style shapes.

  • Drew inspiration from Saul Bass’s symbolic, high-contrast design approach.

  • Explored color, composition, and negative space to capture his visual style.

  • Incorporated hand motifs inspired by The Man with the Golden Arm.

  • Chose a final design emphasizing clarity, contrast, and visual storytelling.

Project Process

This is a fictional illustrated map for The Animal Adventure Park of Binghamton, New York displaying animals through expressive calligraphy. Rather than focusing on geographical accuracy, the piece highlights the unique forms and personalities of each animal using hand-drawn lettering. The calligraphy flows seamlessly into the animals’ bodies and features, merging typography and illustration to create a playful, imaginative map that invites viewers to explore and connect with each creature visually.

They Draw Calligraphy

  • Practiced calligraphy to refine rhythm, precision, and typographic consistency.

  • Created single-line animal portraits using a calligraphy pen to blend expressive lettering with illustration.

  • Digitized and refined hand-drawn elements in Adobe Photoshop to enhance clarity and composition.

  • Incorporated a numbered key and compass rose to strengthen navigation and readability.

  • Achieved a cohesive final map through balanced spacing, unified color, and thoughtful visual hierarchy.
